Somen
Japanese somen are very thin, wheat-based noodles that are typically served chilled, making them a popular dish during the hot summer months in Japan. Made from simple ingredients of flour, water, and salt, somen noodles have a delicate texture and a subtle flavor that pairs well with a variety of dipping sauces or light broths.
Somen is often served cold with a dipping sauce made from soy sauce, mirin, and dashi, and it’s commonly garnished with ingredients like scallions, sesame seeds, and shredded nori. It can also be used in hot dishes, though it's less common. Somen is considered a refreshing and light meal, perfect for hot weather, and is often enjoyed during festivals and traditional summer meals in Japan.
